Vocational Nursing Program


Located in Woodville, Texas

 Twelve-month program

Begins January each year

Course consists of three levels:

Level I Sixteen (16) weeks with major concentration in classroom lectures and demonstrations, coordinated with a few hours of clinical experience in Woodville, Lufkin, Jasper, and Livingston, Monday-Friday  Classes:  Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m.- 3:15 p.m. until week 7, then three days  Clinicals:  Start in week 7; two days. Time varies according to assigned location.

Levels II & III

Thirty-six (36) weeks of increased clinical experience and fewer classroom hours.

Level II:

Classes three days 8:00 a.m.- 3:15 p.m. for three weeks; then two days


Two days; times vary according to assigned location.

Level III:

Classes: One or two days 8:00 a.m.- 3:15 p.m.


Two days; times vary according to assigned location.


  • At least 18 years old
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Application

                 Accepted each year from April 1 until 4:00 pm last Friday of July, with copies of social security card & driver's license

                        Option #1 $65 non-refundable pre-entrance exam fee with application

                        Option #2 results of TEAS test within past year and $10 administration fee with application

           —money order or cashier’s check only

    Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

  • Minimum of seventy-two (72) students are accepted, including at least 15 Tyler County residents

Selection based on:

Top 72 test scores; alternates also selected

Texas State Board of Nursing and Tyler County Hospital criminal background checks

Additional Requirements after acceptance:

  • Evidence of immunizations
  • Current TB skin test
  • Titers & drug screen
  • Current CPR Card

 Tuition and Fees:

  • Tuition currently $6,100, subject to change
  • Additional fees due with tuition - $800, subject to change
  • Textbooks, uniforms, license fees, test fees, etc. during year approximately $2,000

 Financial Aid:

  • Governmental grants NOT accepted
  • Texas Workforce Commission for qualifying students
  • VA benefits



Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

The TEAS test was developed to measure basic essential skills in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English & Language Usage. The test is an approximately four-hour multiple choice assessment test.
