Tyler County Hospital School of Vocational Nursing is celebrating 50 years of training vocational nurses with a homecoming celebration scheduled for October 8, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  If you or someone you know graduated from the School, please contact the School office at (409) 283-6462, or e-mail at lvnschool@sbcglobal.net.  The office needs to know the name of the graduate, the year graduated, current address, phone number, and place of employment, if applicable.  Also, please indicate if you plan to attend the festivities.  Please respond by September 10, 2010.

TYLER COUNTY HOSPITAL

SCHOOL OF

VOCATIONAL NURSING

·         Located in Woodville, Texas

·         Twelve-month program

 ·         Begins January each year

·         Equal opportunity educational program

 Course consists of three levels:

 Level I—Sixteen (16) weeks with major concentration in classroom lectures and demonstrations, coordinated with a few hours of clinical experience in Woodville, Lufkin, Jasper, and Livingston, Monday-Friday

                Classes:  Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. until week 7, then three days

                Clinicals: Start in week 7; two days.   Time varies according to assigned location  

Levels II & III—Thirty-six (36) weeks of increased clinical experience coordinated with clinical

     conferences and fewer classroom hours

Level II: Classes three days 8:00 a.m.-3:15 p.m. for three weeks; then two days 

Clinicals Two days; times vary according to assigned location

 Level III: Classes One day 8:00 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

                Clinicals Two days; times vary according to assigned location

 Qualifications for Admission:

 ·         At least 18 years old

 ·         High School Graduate or GED

 ·         Application     (Instructions for Application)

            Accepted each year from April 1 through July 31

            $30 non-refundable pre-entrance exam fee due with application payable by cashier’s check or money order only

 ·         Pre-Entrance Exam

            Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

 ·         Seventy-two (72) students are accepted

            Based on:

                        Test scores—60% is passing; 60 alternates selected

                        Texas State Board of Nursing criminal background check

            At least 15 Tyler County residents accepted

Additional Requirements after acceptance:

 ·         References

 ·         Evidence of immunizations

 ·         Current TB skin test

 ·         Drug screen

 ·         Current CPR Card

 Tuition and Fees:

 ·         Tuition currently $5,000, subject to change

 ·         Additional fees due with tuition - $550

 ·         Uniforms, license fees, test fees - during year

      approximately $1,200-$1,500

 Financial Aid:

 ·         Texas Workforce Commission for qualifying students

 ·         Governmental grants/loans NOT accepted

 ·         Tuition scholarships available through various local hospitals
